Opening Job Film Days 2024
The opening of the fifth edition of Job Film Days will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 8:30 pm at Cinema Massimo in Room 1, with the screening of the opening film The Story of Souleymane by Boris Lojkine (France, 2024). Boris Lojkine’s third fiction feature film, The Story of Souleymane was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in the “Un certain regard” section, receiving the Prix du Jury award, the Best Male Actor Award and the Fipresci International Critics’ Award. The film recounts the wait for the asylum interview, a necessary step to obtain documents and start a new life. A moment of great tension, loaded with expectations, anxiety, memories and fear of not making it, with all the unknowns that this entails.
The screening will be preceded by greetings from the authorities, officially kicking off the 2024 edition of the Festival.
Before the opening film, the trailers of the films of the Feature Film Competition “Lavoro 2024” JFD-INAIL Piemonte and the trailers of the film of the Short Film Competition “Job for the future 2024” JFD-Camera di Commercio di Torino will also be screened.
Methods of access: admission is for invited guests only. There will still be a quota of tickets available for the general public that can be purchased online and at the box office.

Souleymane, a young Guinean man, who left his country and reached France, crosses the streets of Paris on his bicycle as he works as a rider/deliveryman. As he rides, he repeats his story. In ten days, he will have to undergo an interview to apply for asylum, a necessary step to get his documents. But he is worried. He is afraid he will not make it. His working life and his personal life are both precarious.
The third fiction feature film by French director Boris Lojkine, The Story of Souleymane is played almost entirely by non-professional actors and offers an intense portrait of a character seeking for his place in the world.
The film was presented at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the section called ?Un certain regard?. The Story of Souleymane won the Prix du Jury, the Best Male Actor Award and the Fipresci International Critics’ Award.
Boris Lojkine (France, 1969) is a French director. Before getting into the cinema industry, he taught philosophy at the Aix-Marseille University. His first works are documentaries filmed in Vietnam and inspired by his sojourn in the Asian country. Moreover, he worked for the Democratic Republic of Congo. His first fiction movie, Hope, was released in 2014. This is the story of the migration from Sub-Saharan Africa to Morocco. He was awarded the Audience Prize at the 2019 Locarno Film Festival for his movie Camille, set during the war of the Central African Republic.
