Asma, a Syrian and Sarah, a Lebanese, work at the same restaurant in Lyon. Both carry the weight of a life left behind. At the beginning they are mistrustful, but gradually discover a common thread that binds them, which dates back to when the Silk Road connected Lyon to their native Countries.
Michelle Keserwany (1988) is a Lebanese musician, writer and director, famous for the satirical music videos created with her sister Noel, which criticize the corrupted Lebanese political system. She was the co-screenwriter of Capernaum by Nadine Labaki. She then began her movie projects, including her first animated feature film which is currently in development Ouzkourini, and the political documentary Slow Burn with her sister. In 2019, she received a scholarship from the French Institute to live in La Cité des Arts of Paris and work on her projects. She has lived between Beirut and Paris since then. In 2021 she received the scholarship Aide au Parcours d’Auteur of CNC to develop her first fiction feature film Amara, a political and satirical drama set in Beirut. The sisters’ debut short film, Les Chenilles, written by Michelle and directed by both her and Noel (who also plays Sarah), was co-produced by the Lyon Biennial.
Noel Keserwany (1990) is a Lebanese musician, writer and director famous for the satirical music videos created with her sister Michelle, which criticize the corrupted Lebanese political system. The sisters are working on the political documentary Slow Burn, co-production between France and Lebanon. Noel received a scholarship in 2019 to live in La Cité des Arts of Paris and work on her projects. She has lived between Beirut and Paris since then. She is presently writing her first fictional film Un an, and developing an animated short film, Seven Mountains and Seven Seas.
