The 90s Balkan War caused the loss of thousands of people between 1991 and 1999. The survivors revive their hopes in the excavations and in the scientific work to find the remains of their loved ones and give them a dignified burial. In the anonymity of mass graves, the team of forensic scientists from ICMP (International Commission on Missing Persons) searches for the latest usable tracks of human DNA. The aim: give back their names and dignity to the victims.

Jan Baumgartner (Berne, Switzerland, 1987) is a self-taught filmmaker. He discovers a passion for photography and cinema through his numerous journeys throughout the world. At the beginning he trained as a professional nurse. Since 2010 he has been working as a freelance director and photographer. The war and its impact on society are important themes which he deals with in his films. Territories and people from Bosnia and Herzegovina were already protagonists in Talking Soil, which preceded The DNA of Dignity, his first feature-film. He lives in Berne and Sarajevo.
