JOB FILM DAYS, as usual, hosts two international contests with movies that are awarded by two different juries composed of representatives from the movie industry and institutions that support these awards. In addition to the main juries, thanks to the synergy with the University and Polytechnic of Turin, the event welcomes juries composed of students from these two universities, each included in the two competitive sections. From this year, there is also a representation of students from Scuola Holden.

JFD-INAIL Piedmont contest for documentaries and feature films

The JFD-INAIL Piedmont “Lavoro 2024” Contest is dedicated to documentaries and fiction feature films from around the world. Seven films have been selected and will be presented during the Festival. There will be three awards: Best Film (4000 Euros), Grand Jury Prize (2000 Euros), Best Film on Occupational Health and Safety issues (1000 Euros).

Writing Workshop contest “From the idea to the script 2024 Job Film Days”

The fifth edition of JOB FILM DAYS also hosts the awarding of three prizes to the best cinematographic subjects dedicated to the world of work, developed by videomakers and authors under 35 who participated in the Writing Workshop “From the idea to the script 2024 Job Film Days”. The Workshop was organised by Job Film Days in collaboration with the Bottega Miller Association and Videocommunity . The awards are supported by the Order of Labour Consultants of Turin and Aurora Penne – Officina della scrittura.

“Lavoro 2024” Jury _____

ANTONIETTA DE LILLO

Antonietta De Lillo was born in Naples on March 6, 1960. In 1985, she co-directed with Giorgio Magliulo her first feature film Una Casa in Bilico , winner of the Nastro d’Argento as Best First Feature. In 1990, she made her second film Matilda , also made in collaboration with Giorgio Magliulo. In 1987, she founded Megaris, a company that became a reference point for the new generation of Neapolitan directors. Between 1992 and 1999 she signed numerous documentaries and video portraits. In 2004, she filmed Il Resto di Niente , presented at the 61st Venice Film Festival. It was a great success. In 2011, she created the Participatory Film project, now in its third edition, in which she invites several authors to shoot short documentaries on a chosen theme to converge into a single work. During her 40-year career, her films have been selected for numerous national and international festivals, including the Turin Film Festival, Rome Film Festival and Locarno Festival. They also have won awards at the David di Donatello, Nastri d’Argento, Ciak d’Oro and Fedic Awards.

MARIA IDA BERNABEI

Maria Ida Bernabei is a researcher at the Study of Liberal Arts Department of the University of Turin, where she teaches Cinema and Visual Culture. Previously, she was a research assistant at the University of Udine where she taught Semiotics of Audiovisual Media. She worked on the avant-garde reception of scientific cinema (Un’emozione puramente visuale. Film scientifici tra sperimentazione e avanguardia, 2021) and on Italian documentaries during the years of fascism (La linea sperimentale. Un percorso di ricerca attraverso quarant’anni di cinema documentario italiano, 2013). Her works deal with visual culture, cultural history of cinema, non-theatrical and specialised cinematography, and her essays have been published in collections and both Italian and International magazines, such as “1895”, “Cinéma & Cie”, “Cinergie”, “Comunicazioni sociali”, “Immagine. Note di storia del cinema” and “Fata Morgana”. She is a member of the Film Forum, International Film and Media Studies Conference Project and organisational board. She is also a trainer for the Piano Nazionale Cinema and Immagini per la Scuola programs.

FABIO LO FARO

After graduating in Law, Lo Faro did his first experiences in the private sector working at Credito Italiano. He has then worked as a lawyer before being hired by Inail where, among his first assignments, he was in charge of Training at the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Directorate and later in Venice for the Veneto/Friuli Venezia Giulia Interregional Directorate. He then won the Inail manager tender for which he managed the offices of Oristano, Sondrio, Cremona, Sesto San Giovanni (MI), Pordenone and Trento Provincial Directorate. He subsequently performed his duties as Director of the Central Prevention Directorate in Rome, with vicarious functions of Central Director, and then as Head of Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Directorate. After the role of General Manager, he oversaw Calabria Regional Directorate. He has been the Regional Director of Inail Piedmont since February 1, 2024.

TATIANA MAZALI

Tatiana Mazali is a cultural and communication processes sociologist, and an Associate Professor at the Interateneo Department of Science, Design and Territorial Policies of Turin Politecnico. She is the representative for the three-year and master’s degree courses in Cinema and Media Engineering, where she teaches Interactive Media, Immersive Cinema and Digital Creative Industries. She co-founded the digital creativity platform ‘Officine Sintetiche’. She studies the digital impact in creative processes, in artistic and cultural businesses and, more broadly, in the transformations of work in the context of the fourth industrial revolution.

FEDERICO PEDRONI

Pedroni works for Rai Cinema. He was the selector for the Turin Film Festival from 2007 to 2019. He has been part of the selection committee for the Venice International Film Critics’ Week since 2022, and the artistic co-delegate of the Villerupt Italian Film Festival since 2023. He writes on Cineforum and Duels.it and he has collaborated with many websites and magazines. He edited the critical anthologies dedicated to Mike Leigh and Aki Kaurismäki for the publishing house Feltrinelli. He translated “ Paul Newman . Una vita” for the publisher Dalai and edited, together with Emiliano Morreale, the Italian edition of “ The Story of Film” by Mark Cousins for Bim Distribuzione. He also edited the volumes dedicated to Alba Rohrwacher, Jasmine Trinca and Valerio Mastandrea for the series “Pagine di MoliseCinema”.

ROSSELLA SHILLACI

After her master’s degree in Visual Anthropology and Documentary Filmmaking at the University of Manchester, she made several documentaries as author and director, which were awarded at many International Festivals, such as Al Jazeera Film Festival, RAI Film Festival, Fespaco, Venice Film Festival and Turin Film Festival. Among her most recent movies, Les enfants en prison was co-produced and screened by French television Arte. It won the Etoile de la Scam, an award given to the best documentary film broadcast in France. Affiorare (Surfacing) is an experimental film in virtual reality, selected by the Venice Biennale and the Annecy Festival. She completed a PhD in Digital Media at the Universidad Nova in Lisbon – in collaboration with the Austin University of Texas and the University of Turin – with research on new media and visual anthropology. She has taught in university seminars, such as at the Goldsmith’ s Master’s in London, in Manchester, at the Holden school in Turin, and at the Scuola Civica di Cinema in Milan. She recently worked as an Adjunct Professor at NYU.

VALERIA BONO

She was born in Turin in 1994. At 19, she was admitted to the Civica Scuola D’Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi where she graduated in 2016. Fluent in English, she trained with several professors at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Shortly after graduating from the Academy, she was chosen by Francesca Archibugi to play the role of a navy cadet in her series ?Romanzo Famigliare?, which aired on Rai uno in 2018. 

At the same time, she pursued the studies of pop, jazz and musicals by training with several Vocal Coaches. In 2022, she starred in the series “l a Vita Bugiarda Degli Adulti” , based on the novel by Elena Ferrante, directed by Edoardo De Angelis. Thus, realising her two dreams: to play a character from the genius of Elena Ferrante, and to be directed by Edoardo De Angelis. In the same year, she starred alongside Riccardo Scamarcio in the film “ Race for Glory” directed by Stefano Mordini. The cast also included Daniel Bruhl and Volker Bruch. In 2023, she starred in the Luxvide series “ Che Dio ci aiuti?”(May God help us!). In 2023, she played the role of Ornella Vanoni in the RAI movie “Califano” , directed by Alessandro Angelini, alongside Leo Gassmann in the role of Franco Califano.

GABRIELE NIOLA

He was born in Rome in 1981. Niola struggled with his career until he became a blog critic. He got to achieve a paid job only by the end of 00s and he alternates working as a critic to freelance reporter for many newspapers. From 2009 to 2012 he was selector for the Extra section of the Rome Film Festival, becoming then a programmer and finally co-director of the Taormina Film Festival for a year. From 2015 to 2021 he was news correspondent from Italy for the British newspaper, Screen International. He was a professor of the Journalistic Review Master at the Silvio D?Amico Academy of Dramatic Art. He published with UTET a book-interview to Gabriele Muccino called La vita addosso and a pamphlet titled Odio il cinema italiano published by Bietti . He is currently collaborating with Badtaste, The Post, Wired, and Esquire. In 2023 he wrote and narrated the podcast Storyboard.

NICOLA SCARLATELLI

Since 2020, he has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce Council and Deputy Vice-President of Turin CCIAA. He has been a member of the Turin CCIAA Council since 2014 and President of Turin CNA. Since 1996, he has been Sole Director of SAMEC srl, a leading company in the production of components and sheet metal handling systems on transfer presses. An expert in understanding work situations, he founded and promoted two Business Networks: MTN ‘Mech Tron Net’ in 2012, a network composed of 3 companies specialised in complex integrated systems in the automotive sector; and B2N ‘ BUSINESS TO NET MECHANICAL MACHINING’ in 2013, composed of 3 companies for mechanical processing in the aeronautical, motorbike racing sector.

BRUNO SURACE

Bruno Surace, Ph.D. in Semiotics and Media is a researcher at the University of Turin, where he teaches Cinema and Audiovisual Communication and Forms of Seriality. He is author of the volumes, I volti dell”nfanzia nelle culture audiovisive. Cinema, immagini, nuovi media (Mimesis 2022) and Il destino impresso . Per una teoria della destinalità nel cinema (Kaplan 2019). He took part as a speaker in Italian, European, Chinese and US conferences and seminars. He has been a visiting scholar at UCC (University College Cork). He is an official indexer for FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives). Since 2023, he has been teaching History and Analysis of Film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Turin Branch). He is a film critic for the online magazine Gli Spietati .

AARON ARIOTTI

He has been a storyteller since he was 10. After graduating in Storytelling Techniques at the Holden School of Writing, Ariotti had the opportunity to attend two courses for specialising in screenwriting thanks to which he was introduced to the profession. He has been working as a screenwriter since 2001. During these years he has written all sorts of things: sitcoms, soap operas, prime time tv series, tv series for teens, short films, feature movies? Nowadays he teaches screenwriting in some of the major storytelling schools in Italy. Ariotti continues writing stories non-stop.

FABRIZIO BONTEMPO

Fabrizio Bontempo is a Labour Consultant, owner of Studio Associato Bontempo, President of the Turin Order of Labour Consultants and a Foundation of Labour Consultants delegate. He graduated in Business Administration at the University of Turin. He now provides consultancy and assistance in managing and administrating the personnel for different types of companies, both public and private. He has specific skills in the field of innovative startups and the ability to help new enterprises to grow and develop, also through the use of new technologies. He has always dedicated himself to ensuring fair working conditions for the younger generation. He supports job training with meetings and seminars, trying to prepare young people to get through the labour market?s changes.

ENRICA CAPRA

She has been working as a producer for more than 20 years with her production company Graffiti. She produced internationally applauded movies both for cinema and public channels. These movies were selected by prestigious Festivals and winners of many awards. Among her latest productions there is the animated film Manodopera by Alain Ughetto, winner of the Annecy Jury Award and the EFA Award.
